Start with the record nobody will ever touch. In 1928 Dixie Dean scored SIXTY league goals in a single season. Sixty, in thirty-nine games. Almost a century later, nobody has come close.
And Everton’s greatest ever team? 1985. Champions of England, winners in Europe, Howard Kendall’s side — as good as anything on the continent.
Then came Heysel, and after the disaster English clubs were banned from Europe. So the best Everton team in their history never got its European Cup night. They won the title again in 1987 and the ban was still in place. That team broke up without ever finding out how good it was.
Since then, one trophy. The FA Cup, 1995. That’s the whole list.
And recently it got personal — eight points deducted in a single season, the most any Premier League club has ever been docked.
But here’s what outsiders never understood. Moyes called them the People’s Club, and Goodison Park proved it every week for 133 years. On the final day, Iliman Ndiaye scored both — the last goals the Grand Old Lady ever saw — and grown adults cried on live television.
Now it’s 52,000 on the Mersey. Branthwaite signed to 2030. Pickford going nowhere. Moyes back, talking about Europe.
